Taking lactobacillic research in exciting directions
Research on Calpis Cultured Milk, from which CALPIS is derived, has built up a vast store of world-class top level scientific data and information, and paved the way to the company's versatile microorganism technologies and technical know-how. Based on our accumulative experience, our specific functional food products developments are addressing more and more aspects of human health. Among the current ones are blood pressure, allergies, intestinal condition, and blood sugar.

In the field of blood pressure, Calpis research on the health benefits of Calpis Cultured Milk created the new specific functional food series Ameal S. This product has been certified as Food for Specified Health Uses (FOSHU) by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Since its launch in 1997, Ameal S has become highly popular among consumers. It is now a top brand with a market share representing approximately 70% of all FOSHU food products that focus on blood pressure.
Healthy accomplishments
Another product based on information from lactobacillic research is the INTERBALANCE L-92 series. The Lactobacillus acidophilus L-92, selected from among the 2000 or more strains that the company owns, is effectively used to produce an innovative product line that matches the new era.

Calpis also markets OLIGO CC, a specific functional drink containing soybean oligosaccharides unique to the company. This functional drink establishes and helps to maintain a healthy intestinal environment.
